STRONG RESOLUTION

DOMINION COUNCIL

LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION

A meeting of the Dominion Council, League of Nations Union, was held yesterday to consider the following cablegram received from the headquarters of the League of Nations, London:

World peace in danger. Trust you will urge your Government support League preferably co-operation with America in vigorous action to end hostilities.

After due deliberation the executive unanimously passed the following resolution:—

In view:of the refusal of Japan to comply with tho requirements of the League of Nations that she should make an and of the fighting now taking place in Manchuria and Shanghai, this executive welcomes the announcement of the resolute stand taken by tho Governments of Great Britain and the United States in the emergency. Tho executive urges the Government of New Zealand to uphold the hands of Great Britain in demanding that Japan shall, in accordance with her membership of the League and her definite promise to regulate all disputes with other nations in terms o±" the Covenant, withdraw at once from the scene of conflict and wait for the report Of the Commissioners dispatched by the League and tho decision of the Council thereupon."

A delegation from the executive will support this resolution to the Erime Minister at the first opportunity.
