Page, SiM.,- at the Police Court to-day to a charge of being a rogue and vagabond in that he was found by- night ih'the Waverley Hotel without, lawful excuse. Mr. Lopdell said the- accused, was seen in tho ' Waverley Hote), and .afterwards went, up on the roof. When questioned Leef said''he was chasing' someoao who he thought had gone on to the roof. ' ;

A boarder tried to cai^h him, but got only his hat.: When the 'accused was arrested: lie iwas^questioned about the hat. Ho admitted that it .was his, but said he had lost it ana did not know who'was wearing it when: the first ofEence was committed. "The suspicion , is,". said Mr. Lopdell, " that he is the offender." • ;

In sentencing the accused to three months'- imprisonment, Mr. Page said it was clear that the presence of the acoused in the hatel was for theft or for some similar- pnrpose. Leef had a long list- of previous convictions.
