TO SEE BONDHOLDERS

MELBOTJENE. 2nd February.

When the Loan Council met to-day the Premier of New South Wales,.Mr. J. T. Lang, announced that a cablegram had been sent to tho State's AgentGeneral in London, Mr. A. C. Willis, informing him of the State's default and requesting him to negotiate, with the bondholders for a moratorium.

The Prime Minister declared that Lang's action in seeking a suspension" of interest payments overseas was totally opposed to the Commonwealth's policy. The recent elections also had shown how entirely contrary to public sentiment in Australia was such an appeal. .

The matter is beingofficially considered by the Loan Council to-night.
