"SLUR ON THE CENTRE"

ATHLETIC COUNCIL'S

DECISION

WELLINGTON OFFENDED

'.'I think the -council's reply to our request for funds to send a team of athletes to Blenheim on 20th February is a slur on this centre," said Mr. A. C. Kitto, chairman of the .Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association at a meeting of delegates last evening in regard to the New Zealand Council's decision on Monday night to give up to &i towards the trip, providing the Wellington Centre pays in full the amount owing to the council. "This centre has given more money to the council than any other centre," continued Mr. Kitto, "particularly in regard to registration fees. We have never shelved our responsibilities, and the council can rely upon us paying thorn what we owe. Most of the money owing is by the Manawatu Sub-centre, and I'have given instructions that no moneys are to be paid over to the council before they have been received by us." It was decided to send a team to Blenheim at the centre's expense, Mr. Kitto to decide upon the personnel of the team. ENCOURAGING JUNIORS.
