The Wellington district croquet tonraament commenced ;at Lower Hutt today. The greens were good, although rain at 1 o'clock made them a.'trifle heavy. As is usual on the first day, play was slow. • j,. > The results to hand of the first round of the handicap doubles are as follows:— Mesdaines Brice and Woodham (10) beat Mesdames Gardner and Ilsle'y (8), 2G-23; Mesdames Palmer - and Fisher (16) beat Mesdames Harper and Greig (S), 26-14; Mesdames Lowery and Burd (8) beat Mesdames Wise and Topp (164), 26-15; Mesdames Breeze and Winehcombe (9) , beat Mesdames Warner and Wilson (10J), 26-24; Mesdames Hogan and Dempsey (10) beat Mrs. Lewis and E. Morton (10), 26-15; Mesdamos Hollard and Tassmore (14) beat Mrs. Cleary and Miss 'Langdon (11), 26-25; Mesdames Vcitch and Millar (8) beat Mesdames Eobinson and MaHinson,(l2*), 26-18.
