VETERANS' GALA, DAY

OPENING. FUNCTION

One of the most popular fixtures of the bowling year, Veterans' Day, -was opened by the president of the Wellington Bowling Centre (Mr. 11. "j.l Hodgißs) at the Wellington green this afternoon. On this day the annual game for elderly bowlers is played. Rain commenced to fall shortly before the games were started. Mr. Mills (Johnsonville), the oldest member (89) taking part, rolled up the first-bowl and play began. Bain prevented play from being continued for very long,,and "at the time of going to- press a meeting as being held to decide whether to resume play later on in the afternoon" if the lain ceases, or to postpone the games until a later date.
