BRITISH INDUSTRIES FAIR

•The increased eagerness of-oversea countries to buy British goods, is indicated by - the replies -which are being received daily by the Department of Overseas Trade to invitations to the British Industries Fair in London and Birmingham next February. At the end of October, according to the Australian Association of British Manufacturers, the replies from trade buyers abroad represented twice the number of replies which had been received at the same stage for the fair of 1931. Many hundreds of buyers had announced- their intention of visiting the fair, whilst others had instructed their United Kingdom agents to represent them. Fully 60 per cent, of the replies requested Information regarding the names of manufacturers and producers of goods varying from pins and needles to railway lines, with inquiries for textiles predominating. Motor-cars, pianos, sheep-casings, and codfish were amongst other commodities for -which inquiry was made. Bookings of space indicate that the fair of 1932 would be on a much larger st-ala than in any previous year.

■There are now 40,400 growers of sugar test in England, their produce being handled by ]8 factories. Some (3900 people fpund employment in this industry last year.
