"If was not my wish to comment in a destructive manner upon any great community service, and may I request the correspondents to re-read my statement. Therein it will be found that I stated that the doleis probably the most scientific method or dealing with unemployment which apparently, will bo fbi- ever with, us' 1 also commented favourably upon "the absence _of • begging .throughout Great Britain in contrast with my previous visits to that country; "My comments oh the evils of the dole system wore directed "solely at its operation in the .slum areas, and iv this regard Great Britain has a vevy serious problem, and I. adhere to all I have said. So far as the legitimate unemployed in Groat Britain are- concerned I should bo very sorry to comment adversely; on tho contrary, I believe that the legitimate British Unemployed are.as clean and wholesome aud deserving as the unemployed in any part of tho British Empire, and I regret it jf my statement conveyed any different suggestion-."
