WAGE REDUCTIONS

CARGO WORKERS ON STRIKE

(Received sth January, 2 p.m.) LONDON, 4th January. There is no change in the position regarding the lightermen's strike, the employers remaining adamant. Attempts are'being made at some ports to involve wharf workers, but these have failed; though there was-a temporary stoppage owing to a local grievance. At Liverpool the men-are remaining at work, on the promise of a conference. There are indications that the watersiders will adhere at their mass meeting to the view that a national stoppage would be. a blunder. At Hamburg the seamen have- begun a strike against wage reductions of 16 to 21 per cent, under the emergency decrees. A few dockworkers ' have struck in sympathy. ■
