BOMBED OUT

CHINESE SOLDIERY

SHANGHAI, 21st-December. ' Quick American naval action, with the aid of a few tear bombs, prevented Chinese soldiers from travelling to Shanghai on an American vessel. Indicative of the disorderly conditions still prevailing on the upper reaches of the Yangtse, a number of Chinese soldiers boarded an American vessel afc Hankow, bound for Shanghai, presumably desiring a free passage.

Ordinary attempts to persuade the soldiery to leave the vessel failing, assistance was asked from an American naval vessel, which sent an armed party aboard.

With a few tear bombs, the armed party discharged the vessel of all unwanted passengers.
