LONDON', Ist January. A gold rush is occurring at the Hatton Gardens furnace rooms, -where thousands of pounds' worth of old brooches, bangles, rings, and cigarette cases are being melted daily. Apart from patri- j otic gifts to the Exchequer, there is the I opportunity to make handsome profits, and people from all over the country i are pouring in their jewellery, which! the gold dealers put out in the shape of hundredweights of glistening gold bars, j some going to the Bank of England,; some to the bullion brokers, some to France, and some to America. Large quantities of hoarded gold, ornaments from India, Siam, and Ceylon are finding their way to the same furnaces.
