NEW U.S. CRUISERS
WASHINGTON, 3rd January
Tho United States Navy Department has announced that the much-criticised Treaty cruisers will be- radically changed into miniaturo battleships, stronger than any cruisers in the world except tho Deutsehland.
Anti-rolling tanks will be installed, tho bilge keels will bo lengthened, tho centres of gravity will bo rii.is.cil, the protection will be increased by the installation of heavier armour, particularly above the decks.
Innovations and improvements in other vessels which have been ordered include an increase in the speed of new destroyers to 36J knots.
