CAR AT THE BEACH
SAFE TRANSPORT BY SEA
(By Telegraph.—l'ress Asfociatiou.) KAITAIA, This Day. Mr. Norman Smith has advanced a further step towards making his attempt on the land speed record at Ninety Mile Beach. He left Whangarei in a car yesterday, later arriving at Waipapakauri, where he is making- his headquarters. After seeing the car, the Fred H. ■Stewart Enterprise, safely loaded on the auxiliary scow Motu at Auckland cm Saturday, the official party lett by car for Whangarei, arriving there a\ 7-o'clock. The specially designed truck, heavily loaded with gear, reached Whangarei later that evening, and early yesterday the party set off for Waipapakauri, 119 miles to the north, reaching there at 1 o'clock.
The arrival of the Motu at Awanui early yesterday afternoon attracted considerable interest, and one of the largest p-rowds ever seen on the wharf was there to inspect the car, which by courtesy of Mr. Smith was uncovered.
In the evening the whole parly went for a spin down the beach, taking the gear to the garage at Hikatere.
The car was unloads before 7 o'clock this morning, being hoisted on the scow's own winches and deposited safely on the truck, which had been backed on to the wharf alongside the vessel. The car was taken direct to the garage at Hikatere. '
