CUSTOMS REVENUE
A FURTHER FALL
WELLINGTON FIGURES
The net Customs revenue collected at Wellington last month was £189,321, as compared with £231,714 for December, 1930, a fall of £42,393. The total for the year was £2,263,878, as compared with £3,056,051 for the previous twelve months; a drop of £792,173. A detailed comparitwi for each of the twelve months is afforded by the following table:—•
The duly collected on motor spirit last month totalled £57,029, as against £43,533 for December, 1930, an increase of £13,496. This increase is due entirely to the now tax of 2d a gallon which came into force last October, bringing the old rate of 6d per gallon up to .■ Bd. The sum collected under this new tax was £14.470. This sum is paid into the Consolidated Fund, and'does not, like the 6d tax, go to the Highways Board funds. It is also included in the net Customs figures given above. The figures for the twelve months were £532,517 and £443,867 respectively, an increase of £88,650.
I Collections of tire tax last month totalled £1730, as against £3516 ia December, 1930, a decrease of £1786. For the twelve months a decrease of £15,041 was recorded, the figures being £23,991 and £39,032 respectively. Beer excise collections for December were £7966, as against £6600, an increase of £1366. For the twelve months the figures were £56,930 and £56,686 respectively, an increase of £244.
