SAVING CERTIFICATES
CONVERSION OFFER
FAVOURABLY RECEIVED
(British Official Wireless.) (Received 31st December, 10.45 a.m.) KUGBY, 30th December. The conversion offer issued by the Treasury, and reported last night, in regard to saving certificates of the first issue which ended in "1921, is to-day the subject of favourable comment." It is estimated that the present amount of these certificates, with interest, is about £150,000,000. They were issued at 15s 6d, and if still held are to-day worth almost 32s 6d each through the interest which has accrued auring the past ten years or more. ■Whereas offers of conversion will be welcomed by the holder from the viewpoint of Treasury finance, the conversion of certificates into longer dated security will also have advantages by a reduction of the type of indebtedness which may be regarded as a form of floating debt.
