ENGLAND TOO COLD

SMITHY WANTS SUNSHINE

NOT STAYING AT HOME

(Received 31st December, 11 a.m.) LONDON, 30th December. The cold is worrying Air Commodore Kingsford Smith almost as much as his machine's ill luck. He flatly dismissed stories that he was accepting an appointment in England, and said ho had no desire to leave Australia, adding that it was too cold here. He hopes to return to the sunshine of Sydney in a fortnight as from 6th January. Kingsforth Smith revealed that in the absence of any move from Australia it is impossible to do anything in England to push a regular mail service to Australia. He reaffirmed that the Southern Star's mail paid its way, but said it was an exceptional novelty. The appeal of a regular mail service would not at. first havo the same patronage, but "Smithy" is convinced that the service would stand on its' own bottom after being given assistance for twelve months.
