PICTON EXCURSION
. The thrill 0f.4 first trip by a fine new vessel, coupled with the opportunity of seeing' some of the-events; in the Picton rowing regatta, will doubtless influence many holiday-makers on New Year's Day to go on the Rangatira's excursion to Picton. Eight in the morning will see the 6000-ton "ferry" steamer casting off from the wharf at Wellington, arid at her full speed of over 20 knots: she ought to do the 62-mile run, of which only half is outside in the open strait, in 2% hours, arriving in Picton about 10.30 a.m. The rowing regatta will be the chief interest at Picton of many of the excursionists, but for those who want a run to Blenheim a special train will leave, Picton on the Rangatira's arrival, connecting with her again, on the return : trip, while launches will go from the steamer wharf to several beauty spots in Queen Charlotte Sound, at some of which lunch" may be obtained, and hot water at all of them. The Rangatira's return will be begun at 2.30 p.m., and after the pleasant run down the sound, through Tory Channel, and across Cook Strait, she should be home again alongside the wharf at Welljngton shortly after 5 p.m* The' Wellington Municipal JTramways Baud will. accompany the excursion. r
