ASSAULT ON CLERGYMAN

NEW PLYMOUTH, Bth October. An assault on the Rev. R. B. Gosnell was charged against Timothy Picaird Christian, a Norfolk Islander, to-day, and he was convicted and sentenced to a month's imprisonment. There was an additional charge of' being an idle and disorderly person. Christian applied at ffre hospital office for charitable aid. Mr. Gosnell, a membe:1 of the board, advised him as a single man to go to the Labour Department, where he waß drawn to enter an unemployed camp. Christian refused, used abusive language, struck Mr. Gosnell on the jaw, then leaped through a window and disappeared. He was later arrested.
