MERCANTILE UMPIRES
A meeting of the newly-formed Mercantile League Umpires' Association was held last evening, when the following officers were elected for the season: President, Mr. A. C. Croll; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Cunninghame, H. J. Lawrence, and D. A. Muir; chairman, Mr. P. L. Laurenson; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. l>. Cnsack; auditor, Mr. S. W. Martin; appointment board, Messrs. C. Fittes, J. 0. Cusaek, and' P. L. Laurenson. It was reported that copies of the M.C.C. booklet of rules had been ordered from England, and on arrival would be distributed among the umpires. The secretary reported that the. roll at present showed 21 regular umpires, who would be available to officiate in league matches throughout the,season. At the conclusion of the meeting, a vote of appreciation and thanks was extended to Mr. H. J. Lawrence, the Mercantile League's secretary, for his efforts towards forming the Umpires' Association.
