LICENSING CASES
Several licensing cases were dealt with at the Magistrate's Court to-day by Mr. E. Page, S.M. Kandall "Welch, licensee of the Clarendon Hotel, was fined £1 for exposing liquor for sale after hours. A. ease against his barman, who was charged with aiding and abetting persons in the commission of an offence, was dis« missed. The circumstances of the charges wero that at 6.12 o'clock at night the police had found a number of men at the private bar of the hotel. No one was serving at the bar. Evidence showed that the licensee, who had been in the private bar, was called into the kitchen. The barman had left the bar before 6 o'clock. In dismissing the case against the barman, Mr. Page said he did not think he had knowingly assisted the men to remain on the premises after hours. The eir« cumstances of the case against the licensee were accidental, said Mr. Page. Mr. F. Ongley appeared for the defondants.
The Magistrate reserved his decision in the case of Thomas Davin (Mr. J. J. M'Grath), licensee of the Caledonian Hotel', who was charged with opening for the sale of liquor after bourn and with permitting drunkenneM <» tne premises.
