DELIBERATE ATTACK RELATIONS STRAINED (Received 9th October, 11 a.m.)) SHANGHAI, Bth October. Just when the prospects were appear* ing brighter of settling the Manchuria it question, the Japanese military authorities precipitated a further crisis this afternoon when twelve military bombing aeroplanes launched an air raid on! ' Chinchow, dropping high explosives. Reports declare that the attack wast carefully planned and executed with the full sanction of Japanese military; officials in Mukden, who declare that disciplinary action was necessary. Driven to desperation by the demands of the Chinese public for retaliation, Marshal Chang Haneh* Liang is believed to be preparing forcibly to oppose the Japanese, and ta have ordered the Manchurian force* to concentrate at Chinchow. In the meantime Tokio is sending si second protest to Nanking,.demanding! that the Chinese Government take active measures to halt the sweeping tide of anti-Japanism which is threatening to precipitate a serious outbreak. along the Yangtse ports. .. Nanking announces that the Government is prepared to accept full responsibility, for the lives and property of; Japanese, but refuses to interfere with! the patriotic feelings of the people, the outcome of Japanese aggression. . af-nti-Japanese feeling in Shanghai is reaching boiling point.
