KING'S SPEECH
PARLIAMENT PROROGUED PROCLAMATION SIGNED (British Official Wireless.) (Beceived Bth October, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, 7th October. Parliament was prorogued ' to-day, and to-night the King held a Privy Council, at which a proclamation for the dissolution of Parliament was signed. The King's jrorogation speech read in the Houso of Commons contained tho following passages:— "My relations with foreign Powers continue to be friendly. I have been following with interest and sympathy the resumed deliberations of the Bound Table Conference. I trust that joint endeavour may produce an agreement
on a plan which will commend itself to the judgment of wise statesmanship. "In tho last few weeks my people have been called upon to face a financial and economic crisis which continues to give cause for anxiety. The measures taken to meet this emergency involvo sacrifices from every member of the communit}'. lam confident that, as on former occasions in the history of the country, every citizen will co-operate to the utmost in restoring prosperity to the nation."
