SUCCESSFUL DANCES

CHARLEY'S AUNT CLUB

Last evening, tho Masonic Hall, The Terrace, was again the meeting place of the Charley's Aunt Club members and friends. At the 1931 season for these enjoyable, occasions is drawing to a close, the committee and secretary (Mr. E. Nolan) worked, hard to make last night's entertainment the most successful yet held. A musical and' elocutionary .programme was given, sapper was served, and danoing till the "early hours of the morning concluded a delightfully'lnformal gathering. Mr. R. H. Nimmo presided, and between the items told a number of humorous stories. Songs were contributed by Mrs. Wilfred Andrews,. Hiss Phyllis Martin (with flute obbligato by Mr. Brown), Mr. E. Nolan, Mr. E. Loader, and Mr. G.'Moss. Mr. Erie Chung entertained with some Chinese mystery, and Miss Madge Thomas, and Mr. J. Storr were clever in a sketch entitled '?The Taming of the Shrew." The accompanist was Mr. Norman Izett. After supper, before the guests adjourned to the ballroom, Mr. Nimmo, on behalf of the club, presented tho following ladies with beautiful posies made of sweets as small tokens of appreciation of their ■ valuable services rendered throughout the year: Mrs. Ashcnden (convener of Dance Committee), Mrs. Tracey (convener of catering), Mrs. Wilfred .Andrews (musical directress), 'and Mrs. Lissack (the club's oldest member). Mr. Glover was heartily applauded for his good work as "the man behind the scones." Novelty dances provided a Jot of fun, particularly the polka and old-time waltz to concertina music played by Mr. Stiathmore. Miss Drew and Mr. J. S. Drew were the winners of the "Statue Dinee," and the Monte Carlo was won.' by Miss Huggins and Mr. Neal. Mr. Creed proved a. capable M.C. A large number of guests included Mr. and, Mrs. Thornhill,' Mr. and Mrs. Oliver,' Mr. and. Mrs. > Canning, Mr. and Mrs. Cooke, Mr. and Mrs. Drew, Mr. and Mrs. Swinburne, Mr. and Mrs. Chappell, Mr. and Mrs. O'Neill, Mr. and Mrs. Melville, Mr. and Mru. Wearherburne, Mrs. and Miss Reynolds, Mesdames' S. H. Ferguson, Lynebcvg, Hall, Halley, Sprey, Thompson, Durney, Misses E. Tucker, R. M'Cartliy, Ardell, Williamson, Barney, Rosin, Roberts, Mulholland, Connor, Kane, Treadwell, Seymour, Glazier, M'Haffey, Stewart, Bailey, Pulley, Messrs. M. Milne, Quirke, Ashendcn, A. Fuller, Farroll, G. F. Carpenter, Hunter, Brown, Livingstone, D. and J. Carmody, Harrison', Smith, J. Haley, Bell, Davies, Armstrong, Talbot, J. Entwistlc, Tonkins, and Turnbull. Tho final dance for this season- will take plai'O in a fortnight's time.
