Cabled advices received by the Bank o£ New Zealand and the Wellington woolbroking houses to-djjy are given hereunder, all being dated London, 7th October. The Bank of New Zealand (produce department) :— "The gales have closed firm for all kinds of ■wool. There is an active demand by all branches of the trade. Current quotations for wool of good average condition: Merinos, 60/64's lOd to lid per lb; ordinary, 60/64's 8d to 9d; inferior, 60/64's 6%d to 7%d. Halfbreds, 56's lOd to 10% d; 50/56's B%d to 9%d. ' Crossbreds, fiO's 7%d to B]y4d;B]y4d; 48/50's 7d to 7%d; 46/48's 6\d to 7ttd; 44/46's 6d to GVid; 40/44's s»d to 654; 36/40's 59id to 6d." "COMPETITION ANIMATED." Messrs. Wright, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd.: — "Wool sales closed. Average attendance ot buyers. Competition animated. Bradford buyers chief operators. Continental operating slightly better extent. 170,000 bales offered for series to date. 136,000 bales sold for series to date. Average selection. Greasy fine halfbred, 56/58's 9Hd; halfbred, 50/56's 9d; three-quarter-bred, 48/50's 8d; fine crossbred, 46/48's 7d; medium crossbred, 44/46's 6%d. Murray, Roberts, and Co., Ltd.: —"Sales have closed firm; Bradford buy«rs operating freely, German moderately. Compared with last London saleo closing tates: Greasy merino, best descriptions, closing rates last series barely maintained. Greasy merino, medium to good, par to 5 per cent, advance; inferior to medium, par to 5 per cent, decline. Lambs, greasy merino, advanced 5 per cent. Scoured merino, best, market shows no change; other descriptions declined 5 per cent. Slipe crossbred, crossbred greasy comeback, and crossbred greasy fine advanced 5 to 10 per cent. Crossbred greasy medium and coarse and crossbred scoured advanced 5 per cent." CROSSBRED DEMAND. Messrs. Levin and Co., Ltd.: —"The auctions closed hereto-day firm, with buyers operating freely, especially for all crossbreds, including slipe wools generally.. The aparket for greasy merinos is slightly weaker and prices are not as good as last ■week. Compared with the closing rates 61 last sales, held in July, we quote: <sreasy merino, best, %d per lb higher; average, %d; fine halfbreds, 50/56's Id; halfbreds, 48/50's 94d; fine crossbreds, 46/48's %d; medium, 44/46's %d to %d; coarse, 40/44's Ud to 94d; low, 36/40's 2d to %d; flue slipes, Id; medium and coarse slipes, %d to %d, all higher. Scoured merinos unchanged." DISPOSAL OF PURCHASES. "Messrs. Dalgety and Company report:— ''The London wool sales closed active, ■With improved demand from the Continent. Offered 174,746 bales; sold 154,500. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd.:— "Wool Sales.—The sales closed firmly today. Home buyers are the principal operators. As compared with last sales closing ;rates, prices are higher by Id per lb I for fine scoured crossbred.and fine crossbred elipe; prices are about the same for scoured merino super and lambs merino; prices are lower par to %d'per lb' for greasy merino, %d to Id per lb for scoured merino medium and inferior, and %d to Id, per lb lower for crossbred lambs; prices ■re higher %d per lb'for coarse crossbred, %d to Id per lb higher for medium crossbred, and Id to l%d per lb higher for fine greasy crossbred. Quotations for average to super grades of descriptions as below, were as follows:—Merino (average), 8d to 9d per lb; crossbred, 56/58 lOd to ll%d, 50/56 B%d to lOd, 48/50 7%d to B%d, 46/48 6%d to 7%d, 44/40 6%d to 7d, 40/44 6d to 6%d, 36/40 5%d to 6%d."
