TODAY'S PROCEEDINGS

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL The Legislative Council mot at 2.30 p.m. to-day. The Distress and Replevin Amendment Bill was reported from tho Statutes Revision Committee, which recommended that fho Bill should not be allowed to proceed. The Right Hon. Sir Francis Bell moved that tho Bill should bo referred back to the Committee. There were certain provisions in the Bill which were worthy of adoption, or at least serious consideration. ■ The .Chairman-of the Committee (the Hon. J. A. Hanan) said tho provisions of tho Bill had been carefully considered by the Committee, and ho did not see that any useful purpose would be served by referring the Bill back. The Leader of the Council (the Hon. R. Masters) said the matter had been carefully considered by a very full meeting of tlio Committee. The amendment was defeated by 15 votes to 13. (Proceeding.) .
