TWO-YEAR-OLD WINNER

New Zealand lias provided the winner of the A.J.C. Breeders' Plate on five pc'casions with' Boniform (ipOC), Almoner (1917), Nincompoop (1924), Gold Tinge (1928), and. Movie Star (1930), but in Monday's race it had no representative. The winner, Caramba, nevertheless, has Dominion interest, for he ia a half-bro-ther to Billion, who is owned and is raced by the Wairarapa sportsman, Mr. J. A. Symond. Caramba, who, by the way, started favourite and won very easily, is a brown colt by Caravel (son of Cicero and grandson of CyHene) from Nazetha (a sister to a good performer in -Pistolaire), by Pistol (son of Carbine) from Marie Hall, an imported mare by Sir Geoffrey. Caravel was the sire of Carradale (a firstclass winner, and second to Phar Lap in both Derbies), Spanish Galleon, Old Ming, and other successful horses. Caramba was catalogued for the yearTing sales, but there is no record of his having been sold, so that he was probably obtained by his present owner, Mr. H. Campbell Jones, privately. He was bred at the Macquarie stud by Mr. H. A. Taylor;

Manawatu ' (Anderson), alone, ran five furlongs in lmin Msec, being under v firm hold throughout. Voitre) half a length back, at the end of six furlongs in lmin 22sec. It was an improved performance on the part of Umpire., Royal Black (L. Gray) and Paliu (Anderson) jumped away too soon for Sight Draft (Voitre) and the last-named trailed the other pair throughout. Royal Black, with the betterof the weights, finished a shade too strongly'for Pahu and registered lmin 49sec for the mile. , . Decree Nisi (Anderson) allowed Celeste (Voitre) to make the pace in the early stages of a six-furlong task, but they were together at the close after taking lmin 23sec. 1 Thrasher (Voitre) jumped away at the seven furlongs post to pick up Braggart (Faulkiner). beyond the five. Thrasher finished the better to run the last six furlongs in lmin 22sec, and the last five in lmin 8 2-ssec. Jean Ladosio (Voitre) had Patearoa (Anderson) as a partner over five furlongs, the filly finishing gamely to head her opponent off in lmin ssec—the smartest effort of, the morning, although the track was better than it was earlier. Brilliant Light has made another appearance on the local tracks, but still possesses his ungainly action. The well-known brood marc, Blackada, is on a visit to Lackham. Cleasanta has also gone to- this sire. Capitulation, who' visited Lapidary last season, is idu'e to foal any time tjow.
