THE NAVY LEAGUE
SUCCESS OF THE BALL
Members of the executive committee of the Navy League expressed keen satisfaction at the monthly meeting yesterday with the success which attended the Navy League ball on Friday night, and,, on the motion of the chairman, Mr. W. Perry, it was decided to place on record the-council's appreciation of the work of the Ladies' Auxiliary, the girls' section, and all who had helped. Mr. Perry said that the success achieved this year would encourage the league to hold another ball next year, and possibly annually. The secretary, Mr: R. Darroeh, said that all the returns were not yet in, but it was estimated that the ball would show a profit of about £70. Mr. W. A. Armour, principal of Wellington College, reported that 450 members of the school wcro subscribers to the league. He considered this was very satisfactory in view of the present economic conditions, the decreasing interest in the Navy, and the strong claims, for membership of the League of Nations Union. A resolution was received' from the South African branch of- the • loague with regard to the limiting ,of .. the cruiser .programme. Mr. Perry said that the- resolutions we're' similar "to those already passed locally and sent to the British Government. v It was decided to place on record the league's appreciation of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's action in putting the Tainui at its disposal recently for a gathering of members of the girls' section. Mrs. Findlay and the chairman said that the rally had been attended by about 100 girls, and was most successful. Mr. Darroeh reported that he had attended tho presentation at Lyttelton on Monday to tho motor-liner Taranaki of the inscribed plato marking ( the league's appreciation of the services rendered after the Hawkes Bay earthquake by members of the ship's company.
