A MUNICIPAL PLUNGE CHRISTCHURCH COUNCIL (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") CHEISTCHUBCH, sth October. An unusual plunge into the political arena was taken.by the City Council to-night, when it carried the following motion: — "That the Christchurch City Council, representing tho citizens of Christchurch, views with very great concern a suggestion mado recently by the Prime Minister with regard to tho extension of tho life of tho present Parliament, and wishes to draw his attention to the fact that the hardship and suffering as a result of unemployment and casual employment is unparalleled in the history of our city. Wo feel it our duty, therefore, respectfully to ask the Prime Minister to allow the people to say at the earliest possible date whether they will allow the present Parliament to remain in office for the next three years." ,

Voting on, the motion, was on party lines. Labour^ having a majority it carried tho motion by 8 votes to 6.
