VETO ON A BAND

"COMMITTEE'S COGITATIONS" After having staled that lie had received apologies for non-attendance from a -number of well-known people, the Rev. Dr. Gibb, -\vlio presided at the people's meeting in the Town Hall last night in support of the Geneva Disarmament Conference, said ho hail one other apology to make, and that was in respect of the Salvation Army Band, which was to have played at the doors of the hall. Dr. Gibb said that the Mayor had put a veto on the band playing. There was a meeting of some Finance Committee somewhere in the building, and it was felt .that the playing of the band would interfere with the depth of the committee's cogitations. (Laughter.)
