Tho City Council last evening granted the use of the Concert Chamber on tho evening of 20th inst. for a gathering of ex-pupils, parents, and friends to say goodbye to Mr. J. H. Howell, who is retiring from the position of Director of the Wellington Technical College. Mr. H. Ernest Leighton, of Wellington, has been appointed Government Assessor for the Wellington Land District in place of Mr. Campbell, retired.
