FOR HOSPITAL PATIENTS A very successful little sale of work was held recently in tho basement or tho hospital, to raise funds for addi- j tional comforts for the hospUa patients. The function was arranged and carried out by Mrs. Angus and Miss Eager, prominent members ot tlie cafeteria, which is functioning so admirably at tho outpatients' department and proving a boon and a comiort to the many weary, patients. The sale was opened by Mr. F. Castle, chairman of the Hospital Board, who wished the promoters all success, and stressed the amount of good that the cafeteria was doing, and how the hospital staff now considered the supply of these comforts to be part of the institution. Tho various stalls, which were laden with good and serviceable articles, were in charge of the following:—Flowers and ices, Mrs. Hepplethwaite; afternoon tea, Miss Bown; sweets, Mrs. Ellen; plain and fancy goods, Mrs. Hayman; produce, Mrs. Waite; cakes, Mrs. Gardiner; tea cups, Mrs. Fletcher. A number of members of the Hospital Board were present, including Mr. C. M. Luke, Mr. W. Appleton, and Mr. Brown. Others present included Lady Luke and tho Hon. Dr. Collins, president of tho Red Cross Society.- Mrs. Angus and Miss Eager express thensincerest thanks to all those kind friends who so generously responded to their appeal and wore the means of collecting quite a substantial sum in aid of the patients. Tho cafeteria was inaugurated just three years ago by Mrs. 0. S. Wright, of the Ladies' Auxiliary of tho Red Cross, and has carried on its good work every day since (except Sundays). The servieo is entirely voluntary, and it speaks well for tho enthusiasm of the ladies and their keen interest, that they havo carried on so efficiently and niado their labour of lovo such an asset. Tho comforts dispensed are given free. Donations only are received, and oven after meeting all expenses tho sum of £80 has up to tho present boon handed to tho hospital staff to renew the wireless sets, which were originally purchased by tho Rer 1 Cross Society. The latest efforts will make a further substantial contribution to the hospital.
