PETONE CLUB

The Petone Rifle Club fired a practice match at Trentham on Saturday, ranges 300 and 500 yards. The club deputy-presi-dents, W. J. M'lver and W. Jackson, picked teams, and added interest to the afternoon's shooting. There was a good attendance, and as the conditions were ideal, the scoring was o£ a high standard. At 300 yards K. C. Barkle registered a good 49 out of the possible 50—missing the bull's-eye with his seventh shot; A. BaHinger was next with 48; W. Sanders, a new member last season, also recorded a good 48, followed by R, H. Nicholl 47, N". E. Solomon 4G. At 500 yards the shooting was of a very high standard, and R H. Nicholl topped the scoring here with the possible 50, followed by J. Carter and W. Johnston 48 each, and six members—A. Ballinger, N. B. Solomon, W M'lver, W. Jackson, T. Chapman, A. O'Donnell—47 each. The best aggregate off the gun for the day was secured by R. H. Nicholl, with a total of 97 out of the possible 100; A. Ballinger was second with 95, followed by R. C. Barkle 94, J. Carter 93, N. E. Solomon 93, W. M'lver 91. The teams' match resulted in a win for Deputy-President W. J. M'lver's team, which scored 897, against W. Jackson's team with SBO. ..-. Opportunity is being taken by members to try out rifles, and experiment with different ammuni-. tion, and a further practice will be fired next Saturday over ,the 500 and 600 yards ranges.
