DEPRECIATED POUND
COMMOTION IN CANADA
SPECIAL DUMPING ORDER
(Received 2nd October, 10 a.m.)
OTTAWA, Ist October
British trade interests which interpreted the Order in Council recently passed as an advantageous Canadian move for the extension of British preference were disillusioned by the Order passed yesterday declaring a dumping duty applicable to British goods. The action follows a great commotion in Canadian manufacturing circles. Many fir<ns were confronted with the cancellation of domestic orders, and their diversion to England under the depreciated pound. Further action is believed necessary regarding Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, all with depreciated currency since the abandoning of the gold standnrd.
