TRAMWAY COMPARISONS

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —I have been amused to see same letters appearing in your paper recently comparing Dunedin with Wellington. This appears to me to be? on a par with comparing Levin with Palmerston North or, Dannevirke with Hastings. I have no desire to hurt the feelings of Dunedin people, but surely the statement, to the effect that the traffic in Dunedin is anything like that of Wellington is not to be taken seriously.! I do not know the exact figures, but if I remember rightly, the population of Wellington is ; half as much again as that of Dunedin. It; would be interesting to know the present population of both centres and the area of each.—l am, etc., '•',-'

WELLINGTONIAN.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—Critics of the Tramways Department say cheaper fares) can be given. They don't say how. They quote Dunedin. I would ask them to go fully into the question now that they have started, and J am sure they will change their minds., Compare the two cities, Wellington and Duuedin, for service, comfort, etc., and they will find Wellington is second to.none. As for fares, can we find in the Southern Hemisphere anywhere where they give six miles for 3d except Wellington? I also see a complaint about the new twosection concession card, where a passenger still gets two sections for 2%d. Surely thiß is fair enough when he or she ,has to pay 3d cash fare, a saving of 6d per ticket.—l am, etc., TWO-SECTION RIDER.
