SPRING FLOWERS
WELLINGTON SOUTH SHOW
!.. What-is.stated..to., be the best, spring Show in the history of the Wellington South Horticultural Society was held yesterday in St. Thomas's Hall, Newtown. The Wellington South Horticultural Society was formed by the amalgamation of the St. Thomas and the Island Bay Horticultural Societies, and judging from yesterdays Show, it is setting a high standard among suburban societies. : As usual, narcissi made the chief exhibit, and many of. the- blooms were oi a very high order as regards colouring and shape, although nearly all bove traces of buffeting received during the recent rough weather. The cut flowers were very pleasing.! The ladies' decorative classes deserve special mention, and some of the tables showed considerable artistry in their arranging, although, it is a pity that the tables were- not a little larger iv size, thug allowing the ladies more scope. Xue home industries section received a gppa number of entries. The tradition -of the old St. Thomas Society in catering for the children is being well maintained, judging from the many entries received from children in their classes. A special feature of the Show was the children's decorated tables. The champion bloom was a trumpet, Lord Roberts, grown by Mr. VV. Witchell, of Otaki, and the champion non-trumpet-a Tenedos, grown by Mr. A. J. P. Thomson, of.Lower Hutt. The pudges were:; Flowers and pot plants, Mr. 11.
