(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, sth September. A very heavy rainfall has been, experienced over a wide area of the British Isles in the la,st two days, and has resulted in widespread flooding and considerable damage. Many villages in Derbyshire, Yorkshire, and elsewhere aro inundated. Sheffield and Derby aro among tho large towns seriously affected. Derby is experiencing the worst floods for over half a century, and, unless tho River Dcrwent subsides, extensive damago will be done and large quantities of stock will be drowned in the countryside. The river is within 18 inches of tho lop point of the arch on the Exeter i bridge. Heavy seas are running in the Channel, where a strong gale' is raging. The steamer Opal, of Glasgow, foundered o£E Land's End yesterday with tho loss of the captain and tho chief engineer. Nino other members of tho crev? were rescued.
