SCHNEIDER TROPHY
NO RACE THIS YEAR
WALKOVER FOR BRITAIN
(British Official Wireless.) KTJGBY, sth September. Hero is great regret at Calshot among flying men, and indeed in all quarters, at the withdrawal of the French and Italians from the Schneider Trophy raeo on 12th September, mingled with a certain surprise that both countries, which have had so much longer to organise their ontries for the contest than tho British, whose decision to take part was reached at a late stage, should have found themselves insufficiently prepared. All teams have experienced bad luck and serious misfortune during the testing and training period, and the British have had their full share of these difficulties. France and Italy each forfeit the sum of £4500 as a condition of the eutry^ but this will represent a very small contribution to the heavy expense to which the Royal Aero Club and the Air Ministry have been put. When the British entry has flown over the course on the 12th the trophy will become the property of the Royal Aero Club, as this will be the third British victory in succession. The victorious seaplane ii expected to set up a new record for the course considerably in excess of last year's figure of 328 miles an hour. All arrangements are complete for accommodating ;>, vast concourse of spectators.
