YOUNG MELROSE PLAYERS

The Mclrose Football Club entertained its sixth grade championship team at Newtown on Thursday evening, Mr. J. Burns (vice-president) presiding. Many congratulatory speeches were made and a number of toastsi was honoured. Mr. Burns congratulated the boys and their coach (Mr. R. M'Grath) on winning the championshjp.' The team played eleven matches, winning all. They scored 222 points and had only 6 points scored against them (two penalty goals), their line not being crossed. The chief scorers were Stevens 62 points, Wales 56 points, an 4 M'Elwain 37 points. Mr. Burns, who was one of the foiroderß of the Helros'e Club in 1888, gave a brief history of its formation, and also gave some sound advice to the young players with regard to training. During the evening several social items were given, including an amusing ventriloquist turn by Mr. C. Burridge and recitations by Mr. Waterhouse. Mr. W. O'Loughlin was at the piano.
