ORIGINAL PEN DRAWINGS
Pen drawings and etchings by ill1. Stuart Peterson are now on exhibition at Eaton's Gallery in Willis street. Many of the former are the illustrations to '.Legends of the Maori." by James Cowan and the late Sir Maui Pomare. Illustrative of incident in Maori legend, these pen drawings are of more than passing interest. Mr. Peterson's -work is seen at its best perhaps in "Tapahau Traps the Marokopa Warriors." a vigorous conception of the storming Maoris beiiitj overwhelmed by a canoe laden with rocks being hurled upon them from above. More fanciful conceptions, such as "Aohnruhiiru's Death Chant,'' "The Wunsamii Taniwha, and "Papaka and l'upu." me also striking rl he pen drawings number nearly Jilly, neWeil to which are :i dozen or so etching* asp dealing with Maori subjects. Ihc exhibition will lie open until 6th May.
