WORSER BAY BOATING CLUB
A race was held by the Worser Bay Boating Club on Saturday, on the usual northerly course. There were six starters, of which the Ngaru finished first. The Pastime was first away, with 15min, but retired early with rudder trouble. The Ngaru and the Ngaroma were next off together with Bmin, but the former soon took the lead, and was never passed. The Ngaroma was on her beam-ends all the time and staggering, whereas the Ngaru, with more weight, was able to sail through most of the squalls. ,The O. Iv. Baby, with smin, was sailed for the first time in a race by her owner. The Demon, with 2min, carried no jib, two reefs, and ah extra man up, and beat Kiwi, which had a jib and only two men. The-wind was very squally, and all boats showed surprising speed off the wind. No spinnakers were set, because the "run was really from the quarter, and a spinnaker was often unmanageable in the stiff squalls. The finishing times were:— Ngaru (Bmin), 4hr 44min 30sec 1 Demon (2min), 4hr 45rain 30sec —.; 2 Kiwi (scr), 4hr 4(imin ssee 3 Also finshed: Ngaroma (Bmin), 4hr 50 mm 40sec; O. K. Baby (smiu), 4hr 57min lOsec. ■ ■
