QUICK1 WORK IN HAWKES BAY

On the night of Tuesday, 3rd February, or oven next day, few people in Hawkes Bay would have dreamod of tho restoration of the railway sorvice within at least a week; yet,' as the Minister'of Railways, the Hon. W. A. Veitch, points _out in a special congratulatory message to the railways service, trains were running "to and from Napier approximately 48 hours after the upheaval." This, adds the Minister, "was a great factor in restoring confidence." J The Minister's message is published in the "N.Z. Railway Magazine" for February, which, also contains a message to' the staff from the General Manager,' Mr. H. H. Sterling, who, in congratulating the service, and especially the Maintenance section, adds: "It is pleasing to note that although much of tho work done had to to very temporary and of an emergent character, absolute safety was maintained with the running of the trains and not a single accident or hitch of any kind occurred in working the very heavy .traffic that the situation gavo riso to."
