MILK SUPPLIER PINED

A' DIRTY MACHINE r'

O. A. B. Browne, who supplies milk to the municipal milk depot, was fined £10 by Mr. T. B. M'Neil, S.M., at th» Upper Hutfc Court yesterday for having a-dirty milking machine. Inspector . Wilson, who prosecuted, said that in consequence of complaints mad© by the City Milk Department, which several times had found portions of Browne's milk not up to standard, he had examined defendant's milking plant and had found portions': of the machine in an unclean condition. Soma parts had been coated with stale thick milk,' and other portions were slimy. When shown the parts, the defendant blamed his manager. * . • ' The defendant, in his evidence, admitted that the machine was not clean, but thought a prosecution was not justified. He blamed a lotion used on the cows' udders for the milk not being up to standard. Under cross-examina-tion he admitted that only hot, and not boiling water was used for cleaning. The Magistrate said he was, satisfied the machine was in "a filthy condition, and he could not understand why tha defendant did not realise the position. It was a matter of serious import, and he regarded the offence as serious. The conviction automatically carried witk it the cancellation of tho defendant's licence. '
