TELLING THE NEWS

NBWSPAPEK RECOVER?

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIEB, 11th February. : In keeping with the spirit of enterprise and courage shown by its Napier contemporaries, the' "Hawkes Bay_ Tribune," as soon as its staffi, had finished taking a share in the urgent Rescue and relief work that necessitated the putting aside of all other considerations for a day or two, carried on with the publication of a daily news-sheet, in which it gave summarised items of news. . ■ i ■ Information about missing friends or inquiries for them, instructions for the preservation of public health, official edicts of the relief committee, and such other items as are more useful than journalistically ornamental have comprised the greater-part of the matter appearing in the bulletins. The paper is carrying on in a small building generously lent by a local printer. All type and hand-set leaflets are run off on a machine operated by a treadle. Altogether it is a plant that Caxton would not greatly have coveted, but it is doing the job and nobly standing up to the -work. The "Tribune" Company, though its building was to all intents completely ruined, was fortunate in the fact that only slight damage was done to tho plant, and it will begin on Monday to publish at the usual premises under more,or less normal conditions. It is probable that an eight-page paper will be published daily and enlarged later. . -■.■...-•
