MONEY FOR REPAIRS
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Some years back the State Advances Department had a clause in their mortgages whereby % to 1 per cent, was charged above the rate of interest, this being rebated periodically for 'general repairs, painting, etc., thereby ensuring that the property was kept in proper condition. Would it not be possible for a scheme on the above lines to be put forward during the present shortage of work so that people having property with Government mortgages thereon could borrow from the Department say about £23 to £30 for renovations, this loan to go on to the present -or existing mortgage. I am sure there are a lot of owners who would gladly avail themselves of the opportunity to have work done under these, conditions and this would take up a certain number of out of work tradesmen.— I am, etc., •
