PETONE TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL
The principal of the Petone Technical School, Mr. A. M'Fadyen, reports that the number of new students enrolled is 1.15, consisting of 67 boys and 48 girls. Of these 41 were from Petone, 46 from LowerHtitt," '23 from the Silvei'stream-Upper Hutt district, 3 from Muritai, 1 from Thorndon, and 9 transfers from other secondary schools.
The increase has necessitated the appointment of more teachers.
Mr. Lowry has been appointed engineering instructor, a commercial teacher is about to be appointed, and another will be advertised for.
Temporary instructors have been appointed. The erection of the workshop block, promised late last year, is now an urgent necessity, as the accommodation, already taxed to the utmost by the evening classes, is now severely taxed in the day time.
The typing-room and the wool-room have been pressed into service for other classes. A very considerable amount of new furniture will also be required.
The principal states that the school is indebted to the Rev. J. C. Loan and Mr. H. A. Morris for the loan of forms, and to Mr. Tombs for his supervision of the erection of the tennis court fence.
