PRISONERS NOT RELEASED
.It was the general impression in Napier that the prisoners under sentence and those awaiting trial at Napier were released on Tuesday, but that, states the Chief Inspector of Prison's, Mr. D. A. M'lntosh, is not correct, for they were brought down to the Wellington prison. Eleven men were working in the quarry when the earthquake occurred, and all got safely back except two who were rushed away to hospital. One was reported to have died from his injuries on Friday evening. The prison was much damaged, the walls falling in ruin. The conduct of all prisoners, said Mi-. M'lntosh, was exemplary.
