To establish a. continuity of siipplies to wholesalers in the earthquake area is one of the first aims of a Wellington committee-, of traders which met last week. Such a.'stop has become ncceasary bocau^e of wholesale merchant houses in the Hawkes Bay losing everything, r . ' ; The meeting was called to consider the serious position in'regard to supplies of commodities to retail traders adjacent to Napier and Hastings. There was a representative attendance of merchants, manufacturers, traders, and others. It was felt that in such a crisis immediate help was essential to assist in reconstructing tho Napier houses, and a committee i'ully representative of Wellington's trailing community was set up witli a view, to making inquiries as to what could be done in regard to Napier and Hastings, with a direction from tho meeting to enlist the aid of all interested traders throughout the Dominion to come to the aid of fellowtraders who had suffered so severely. One of the first.steps to be taken by tho Wellington Committee will be to arvange for :i continuity of supplies to bo distributed from one central source, so that goods of all classes may be'availablo to enable retail traders to carry on Uicit business. '
