M'Kenzic) moved a resolution of sympathy with Mr. W. T. Strand, oxMayor of Lower Hutt, 'in the death of his son, Mr. W. C. Strand-, who lost his life in an aeroplane fatality at Waifoa on Sunday. The motion was carried in silence. A. resolution ,of sympathy with Mr. Strand was also carried at a public meeting held in Lower Hutt last evening. . ' '.'■-■■ . The animal report of the New Zealand Institute of Architects records with regret the death of Mr. W. G. Chatfield, of- Wellington, and of Mr. T. 11. Battle, of Wanganui. Mr, Chat-; field was president of the Institute immediately after ("lie passing of the Act-of Incorporation, and although in the last, few years he had not been actively engaged in the business of the Institute,' he.retained a very keen interest in its activities. Mr. Battle, through his position as chairman of the Taranaki-Wanganui branch, had on several occasions acted as a vice-president of the Institute,; and'-as a member of the council, and h'ad-rendered loyal services for a long period of years. .The.death of Mr..Henry P..JJ. Hanson occurred on 3rd February. The late Mr. Hansen, who was aged 82 years, arrived in New Zealand in October, 1875, and with tho exception of a short period.when he resided at:Kiniboltoii, Feilding, he has lived in Wellington', the last forty years being spent at Moxham avenue, Hataitai. He was a sergeant in the old volunteers and served in the force that went to Parihaka ' when the Maoris surrendered. The deceased was well known among the old shoe and timber traders of Wellington. He had been a member of the Hataitai Methodist Church practically since its inception. He is survived by his widow, four sons, and two daughters, Messrs. 'B. A., N. L., and 0. V. Hanson, of Sydney, Mr. C. A. Hanson, and Misses. 8.. C. and W.A. Hanson, Hataitai.
