"The umpires are sole judges of fair or unfair play, fitness oi ground, tho weather, and light ;f or : play," say the rule's. They are indeed the wise men of cricket; It takes a strong, silent man to say "not out" to a full'team whoop of "Howzatt!" But umpires can do it. They smoke incessantly. One rule says, "They shall allow tw6 minutes for each batsman to come, in"—that's to give the umpire time to fill up his pipe, "and they shall allow ten minutes between each innings" That gives the umpires time, to get in a stock of Edgeworth tobacco. Umpires are good judges; they smoke the best of good tobaccos—Edgeworth.—-Advt.
