Among the prisoners sentenced by Mr. Justice Smith this morning for breaking, entering, and, theft wore seven young Maoris.; • " ' "It is sad to see so many members of the Maori, race coming forward at one sitting of the Court," said his Honour. For breaking, entering, theft, and arson at Hokianga, Patu Manu Harding, aged 21, was sentenced to five years' hard labour; Hamara Eperi, alias- .Pana s Eperi,' aged.22, four years-- hard , labour1; and Waata Timoko, aged 21, six. months' imprisonment. Henry" Tepaua, aged 22, and Frank. Toko, aged 19, committed from Dargaville for breaking, entering, and theft, were sentenced to three and two years' respectively/in a Borstal institution. \,■-.'; Kuru Rehana Pitini, aged 30, was sent to a reformatory for two;years for breaking, entering, and theft-vat Rotorua;: Tom Hamilton, aged 20, alias Sam Hamilton, received a sentence of nine months' hard labour for breaking, entering, and theft in the Kaglan district. ; For breaking, entering, and theft at Onohunga John Bertram -Ho'ggar t, aged 22, was admitted to probation: for three years; Charles Robert Hoggart, aged 19, was sentenced to two years in a Borstal institution; and Raymond Halliday, aged 18, was admitted to two years' probation, Joseph Edward Cochrane, aged 31, clief, received twelve months' hard-labour for bigamy; Thomas James. Harvey, aged 25,. two .-years-probation for setting fire to his own house at Onehunga; Howard Mawhiney Williams, a musician, was sentenced to 18 months' reformative detention for false pretences; Sargent John Nash, aged 43, nine months' imprisonment for false pretences, forgery, and uttering a cheque at Opotiki; Sydney John Badams, alias Davidson, aged 32, five years' hard labour on a series of forgery charges-. -.-- , - .■. ...-;-^.
